DUANE EVANS MEMORIAL FUN DAY SUCCESS!!!

The Duane Evans Fun Day was recently held at Neyland AFC and this year’s event surpassed any other. The event is held as an annual fundraiser / fun day in memory of former Neyland AFC player Duane Evans who tragically died in a car accident.

This year’s event, sponsored by Adrian Moore of Honeyborough Garage Ltd featured many fun stalls, face painting, bouncy castle, temporary tattoos, cross bar challenge and various other games for the children and youngsters of Neyland to enjoy. A barbecue was also kindly sponsored by Scott Gregory of Caddies Cafesquads pre match

The event culminated in the Annual Duane Evans Football Match. This year’s match was the Current Neyland Playing Squad versus a Coaches / Parents / Members of the Evans Family XI.

The match was an entertaining affair which ended in a 4 all draw with the highlight being Mark Riley (better known for his rugby skills) scoring a cracker of a goal from fully 35 yards out – We won’t mention his penalty which he blazed over the bar.

In the resulting penalty shootout, Jim Payne (Parent) was the hero for the Coaches / Parents team in saving 3 penalties and it was left to Chris Gale (Parent) to strike home the winning spot kick.

Bedroom Tax Hits Neyland

The Bedroom Tax has had a big impact on Neyland and I am really worried by the people who have been hit hard and are enduring hardship and worry. Figures which I have obtained from the Local Authority show that 22 households in Neyland East Ward, my own ward and 24 in Neyland West have seen a 14 per cent drop in their housing benefit because they are deemed to have one spare bedroom. Those with two spare bedrooms have seen a drop of 25% and this involves 9 households in Neyland East and 6 in Neyland West.
Anyone needing advice or assistance should by all means give me a ring and I will signpost them to appropriate advice. I know that the Revenues Department of the County Council have been incredibly supportive of those seeking answers.

Neyland Carnival 2014

The Neyland Carnival held on 13 July was absolutely great. The overcast patchy drizzle did nothing to dampen spirits as hundreds of spectators lineneyland-carnivald the route from the starting point of the Rose & Willow. It then proceeded down Honeyborough Road, Kensington Road, Riverside Avenue, Promenade, Hish Street and John Street to the Athgletic Club field.

The floats and walking contestants put in so much effort; everything was of the highest quality. The best street went to Harbour Close with their take on the Roaring Twenties.

Here are some of the pics of some of the entries. Huge thanks must go to Malcolm Hawkins and his small band of RAOB brothers for arranging the carnival and everyone agreed it was an outstanding success. The merriment lasted all day and there was no incident or disturbance of the slightest kind.

Pembrokeshire County Council changing village

The Pembrokeshire County Council changing village is being constructed by WJG Evans and should be finished in August. It is one of the best improvements over the past few years and represents a £500,000 investment. The new building will house four changing rooms and a gym and replaced the dilapidated old pool and stand.

The Pembrokeshire Housing Association scheme in St Clement’s Road

The Pembrokeshire Housing Association scheme in St Clement’s Road is progressing well. There will be four one-bed flats and one two-bed unit. The investment is around £400,000 and local housing applicants will be given preference. When it is remembered how this was an overgrown mess, a dumping ground, this scheme is an excellent regeneration project tidying up the area which will provide housing for local people.
